BALANCING CURRICULUM AND AMBIANCE Joel M. Hoffman, PhD Hebrew schools play two distinct roles in the lives of those who attend: They give students the knowledge they need to participate productively in their Jewish communities, and they provide young Jews with their first and most lasting Jewish experiences. Successful schools address the role of education through curriculum, and the role of experience through ambiance. Unfortunately, these two complementary roles sometimes conflict. We'll talk about ways of balancing curriculum and ambiance.
